Ecotoxicology

NewFields’ team of forensic ecotoxicologists and risk assessors has more than 30 years’ experience providing solution-oriented approaches to clients for both industrial and government. Our approach focuses on the dynamic relationship between the potential exposure of contaminants of concern and the observed response of biological systems.

In some cases, our clients require specialized studies specific to their site circumstances.  For such cases, we develop project specific protocols to simulate site-specific conditions in a controlled laboratory setting to fully understand the bioavailability of potential contaminants.  Our strategy provides relevant data at the population, individual, and cellular levels to define biological threshold concentrations of contaminants based on site specific data rather than modeled values based on established benchmarks, which are often not representative of the site.

We use state-of-the-art field sampling techniques including sediment profile imaging cameras and a variety of sediment, soil, and water samplers to characterize site conditions.  Our forensic laboratory links field-collected data with a science-based analysis to identify potential sources of contaminants, develop site specific standards, evaluate sediment removal or clean-up options, support litigation, or assess ecological or human health risk.
